Quick transactions. Tipping is appreciated but shouldn't feel pressured.

Percentage-only tip hints

Shift4 Dine tip prompts currently support percentage-based options only. Flat dollar amounts (e.g., $1, $2, $3) are not available. Set up to 3 percentage options per device. Set a field to 0 to hide that option, or set all three to 0 to disable the tip prompt entirely.

How to Configure in Shift4 Dine

Four settings. All in the Manager app. Takes about 5 minutes per device.

Enable Tips Per Device

Manager > Settings > Hardware > Payment Devices

Toggle 'Prompt For Tips' on each device. Bar terminals ON, kitchen devices OFF.

Set Tip Percentages

Manager > Hardware > Printers/KDS > Receipt Printer

Enter up to 3 percentages in the Tip Hints fields. Set to 0 to hide that option. All zeros disables the prompt.

No Tip Button

Hardware > Customer Display Settings

Configure 'Allow No Tip' per device. ON for counter and bar, consider OFF for full-service dining.

Max Tip Limit

Hardware > Payment Device Settings

Set a maximum tip percentage to prevent unauthorized adjustments. Exceeding the limit requires a manager PIN override.

Tip Sharing Integration

Shift4 Dine Tip Sharing Suggestions let you pre-configure rules based on percentage of total tips, net sales, or gross tips.

  • Pre-configure tip sharing rules by role or station.
  • Staff adjust amounts via dashboard or during clock-out.
  • Tip sharing prompts appear as part of the employee clock-out process.
